We start our journey with a visit to Knossos Palace. It is the most famous attraction of Crete. King Minos’s palace and the labyrinth of Minotaur are legend. The palace was built in about 2000 BC. It is the cradle of European civilization, the centre of Minoan culture, a place where reality meets with myth.
Next our route goes to the centre of the city of Heraklion where the Archaeological Museum is situated. The museum owns a unique collection of Minoan antiquities, mostly the artefacts found by Arthur Evans during his excavations in Knossos.
After visiting the Archaeological museum, we continue our voyage through the eastern part of the island and reach Dikti mountains.
Dinner is served in the Krasi villageat a cosy traditional tavern. The village is known for its old springs and a huge ancient plane tree.
Then we take mountain road to Lasithi plateau, the largest plateau of the island, so called, the Valley of Thousands of Mills. In the slope of a sacred mountain Dikti there is the entrance to the Dikteon Andron Cave where, according to the legend, the great and mighty ancient god Zeus was born.The unusul and majestic view of the cave consist of quaint figures created by stalactites, stalagmites and stalactones. Fantastic views are supported by colorful lighting. At the bottom of the Zeus cave you can seeglittering ice lake.
