A small picturesque village of Fodele is located among orange groves and cypress forests. It
is believed that the modern Fodele is located on the site of the ancient town of Astali, one of
the ports of the ancient Axos. Not far from the village there is the church of the XVI century
devoted to Mary, mother of Jesus. Next to it, perhaps the most important sight of Fodele,
the house-museum of the great Domenico Theotokopoulos (El Greco).
Here you can see copies of his creations, made in the form of illuminated stained glass.
Our excursion ends with a visit to the monastery of St. Panteleimon. The monastery owns a
fragment of the relics of the saint and several icons written by the famous icon painter
Mikhail Damaskin.
